The inaugural Waiakea Uka Fall Festival and craft fair is slated for 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the Stanley Costales Waiakea Uka Gym at 1200 Ainaola Drive in Hilo.

“This event is a ‘thank you’ to all of the coaches in the various athletic clubs for being excellent role models and leaders to kids that participate in the various sports at Waiakea Uka Gym and to celebrate the whole community,” said spokeswoman Yolanda Nakamura.

The event will feature free activities for kids of all ages — a bouncing castle, a water slide, face painting, balloon sculpting and Kendama games, with prizes provided by Hawaiian Island Creations.

There will be ono plate lunches, shaved ice and lots of baked goods and treats. Also, enjoy live entertainment by various halau and musical trio Komakakino, along with line dancing, Waiakea Uka Intermediate Ukulele Band and Zumba.

“Shop early for the holidays from a wide assortment of gifts and crafts by numerous vendors,” Nakamura said. “Bring your children for keiki I.D. provided by the Prosecutor’s Office, and receive home and property safety tips by the Police Department.”

Waiakea High School clubs’ members and advisors will be assisting in activities throughout the day. Many door prizes from local merchants will be given away. No purchase is necessary to participate, and admission is free.

The event is sponsored by the county Parks &Recreation Department and KameoKatzKreations/Dance While You Can. Call 896-0265 for more info.

“Bring the whole family and enjoy the day at this first-ever special event,” Nakamura said.
